Reported Bugs

I consider myself an active user and supporter of free software. So what do I do to support free software? Well, I do contribute code to free software projects, but most of these are academic research prototypes that are only of interest to a very small group of users. For most of the software that I am using, I neither know the code bases nor the programming languages well enough for being able to contribute. Therefore, my contribution is mainly in terms of bug reports.

These are bugs I have reported to various projects:

biblatex

• 2012-01-31 \psq and similar commands don’t work in \title{\thanks{…}}
• 2010-02-28 Option to turn off warnings when both date and year given
• 2010-09-24 date=iso8601 option doesn’t exist, but date=iso does

evil

• 2012-04-04 Spurious newlines inserted after pasted text; screw up undo
• 2012-03-04 evil-window-lru rotates through all windows
• 2012-02-25 Text marks [ and ] (first and last character of previously changed or yanked text)
• 2012-02-08 evil-ex-search-forward reports error instead of searching interactively
• 2012-02-07 set-mark-command in Emacs state activates Visual state
• 2012-02-02 :s@pattern@replace@: unknown command
• 2012-02-02 :s/pattern/replace/ doesn’t allow \/ in replacement
• 2012-02-02 Patch: reftex-select-bib-mode in Emacs state
• 2012-01-21 :s/pattern//g replaces with “g” instead of empty string

Gentoo Linux

• 2011-07-30 app-text/texlive-core-2011 does not work with dev-tex/luatex-0.63.0 (does not find modules)
• 2010-11-16 dev-lang/wml-2.0.11-r4 does not work with dev-lang/perl-5.12.2-r2
• 2010-11-06 app-emacs/emacs-w3m-1.4.4-r3 doesn’t work with app-editors/emacs-23.2-r2
• 2010-10-23 dev-vcs/git-1.7.3.2[+doc] does not build (docbook2texi error)

• Crash when loading PDF (using Okular plugin)
• No shortcut key for articles tab
• View mode should not be hidden in a submenu
• Drag&Drop folder crash
• “Feed” column should be shown in “directories”, not for single feeds
• Restore open tabs after crash

Amarok

• Allow for repopulating dynamic playlist when all tracks are queued
• Amarok fails silently when /tmp is full during Magnatune download
• Composer always reset to unknown
• Context menu for “Stop playing after this track” does not reflect status
• Crash on every startup (during the splashscreen)
• Current track applet always shows “No track playing”
• Media keys do not work as global shortcuts
• Repopulate playlist deleted queued tracks
• Reintroduce Queue Manager

KAddressBook

• Addressbook (Contacts resource) is shown twice
• No feedback when script hook fails
• Menus edit, view, tools, new, import, export are empty

• No feedback when window shortcut key conflicts

khtml

• “Search” entry in context menu mis-rendered for some text selections

KMail

• “Add to Address Book” does not work (akonadi MySQL down?)
• Addressbook crypto settings are no longer respected
• Allow for prioritizing folders when checking mail
• Cannot delete more than one recipient by repeated clicking the “delete” icon in the text box
• Composer does not pass temp file name to the external editor
• External editor: provide option to include headers into mail
• KMail crashed after granting KWallet access once
• Locally unsubscribing in dIMAP does not take effect immediately
• Mails deleted from disconnected IMAP folder
• Mail viewer does not recognize/decrypt PGP-encrypted mail
• No shortcut key or menu entry for “open new tab”
• On pressing “J” KMail claims “ambiguous keyboard shortcut sequence detected”
• Recipients starting with multiple uppercase letters are not autocompleted in the composer
• “Send Again” does not respect Reply-To header

Konqueror

• Cannot open links found with keyboard search (find as you type)
• Can’t open pages from history in a new tab
• Can’t insert a TAB into a textarea despite “allow tabulations” unchecked
• Text area editor incredibly slow when typing
• Disable spell checking for text areas permanently
• Shortcuts for find-related actions no longer work
• nepomuksearch hasTag does not reliably display tagged files

KStart

• Allow for specifying window shortcut key

KTimeTracker

• Configure KTimeTracker shown twice in Settings menu
• Filtering tasks by priority or title and summing their times
• Session time in status bar remains unchanged when closing file
• Search bar gets activated even when it’s hidden
• Search bar always displayed after Settings -> Configure KTimeTracker
• Small window becomes visible for some milliseconds
• Cannot hide toolbars
• No warning when timetracker file is overwritten externally
• Erroneously claiming disk is full

KWin

• Can’t set window shortcut key with keyboard only
• Crash after attempt to set window shortcut with keyboard only

Nepomuk

• sopranocmd fails with D-Bus error

Okular

• Crash on many ps.gz documents

Plasma

• Pop-up widgets like Kickoff incompatible with Auto-hide panel and focus follows mouse

• Settings shortcut key
• Context menu hotkey neither works nor is configurable

• 2012-03-26 FILESAVE: Filter list in export dialog broken; most entries not selectable

• don’t redirect from the original page in the “move succeeded” notice

Muttator

• Temporary file deleted and mail body empty after closing external editor
• composer should support selecting the “From” header (i.e. identity)

• “t” in command mode crashes Muttator
• Muttator gets stuck in MESSAGE (menu) mode
• documentation is incomplete
